What if I never have a baby or become a mom?

What if I never have a baby or become a mom? That is a difficult question, one that we wrestle with when experiencing infertility. It’s a question that intensifies with each passing birthday or anniversary. I don’t have all the answers, but I want to point yo u in the direction of some women who have addressed this question through their writing:

Meredith Hodge – I began following her writing about infertility years ago. Her perspective is very Bible-focused, and over the years, she has chosen to be content without becoming a mom: itspositiveliving.com/blog/ – and here’s a specific post that you might like.

Justine Froelker is determined to live a happy life though she and her husband do not have children. She has written several books and many blog posts: www.justinefroelker.com.

Spoiler alert: This book Barren Among The Fruitful does not end with a baby. And I love when Kindle books are less than five bucks on Amazon!

Glenna Marshall has adopted 2 children, and doesn’t have biological children. I encourage you to check out her blog: www.glennamarshall.com. She recently published a book as well.

Suffering is Never for Nothing is a “new” book by Elisabeth Elliott – this book was published after her death, and it’s the transcript from a talk she had given. I recently listened to the audiobook. I believe this book will speak to many who are suffering and grieving because of childlessness. Find it on Amazon or other booksellers.

A couple of years ago a friend I met in an online infertility support group wrote a guest post on this blog, processing her thoughts, feelings, and most of all, her faith, as she realized she was not going to have biological children after decades of trying to conceive. Read Stephanie’s post here.

Most of all, the best recommendation I can give you is to dig into the Word of God. Like Jacob wrestled with the Lord, like the persistent widow knocked until she got an answer, like Simeon held on with faith until he saw Jesus with his eyes, we can press in and press on. The Author of the greatest book, the Bible, is the Author of your life story, and He knows what He’s doing. He’s the God of hope, He loves us more than we can comprehend.

If you are wrestling with these questions that begin with “what if I never…” I want you to know that you’re not the only one feeling what you’re feeling. I encourage you to bring your thoughts and questions and emotions and prayers to God, seeking Him over and over again. He might make answers clear in this lifetime, but He might not. Regardless, He is good toward you. I have wrestled to know Him and to know His goodness as well, and He will meet you in the process as well.
