Walk of Hope DC 2015
A year ago I didn’t know one bit about all of the infertility support that is available. I hadn’t heard of the Walk of Hope sponsored by Resolve, the National Infertility Association. A year ago I was timidly sharing an idea with my closest friends, saying something like, “I think I’m supposed to write a book about our journey through infertility, even though we don’t have a baby yet.”
The support from friends and family rolled in. My confidence to speak about such a tough subject grew bolder. I wrote the book, started this blog, and began to share freely because Mike and I believe so strongly that everyone can have hope during this season of waiting for a baby!
Last Saturday, we joined several hundred others in the regional Walk of Hope just outside of Washington DC. I didn’t realize how emotional I would feel seeing a crowd of people who are handling this challenge in a variety of ways: adoption, IVF, medical care, etc. I hid my tears behind my sunglasses and tried to compose myself.
We walked a mile, chatted with others, and remembered that we are not alone.
You can read all about our journey in the book Embracing Hope During Infertility, but this month, at our five-year mark of trying to conceive, here is our proclamation, as seen on our t-shirts that day: Keep Calm and Keep Trying.
We’re not giving up because we still have hope in God and we’re still believing that He is able. Maybe our next round of t-shirts will say Keep Calm and Keep Hoping. Better yet, maybe our next round of t-shirts will say “We Kept Hoping and Look! Here is Our Miracle!” 🙂
Practical Tip: One way to survive the infertility journey is to connect with others who are also going through it. Resolve’s website offers a wealth of information and resources.
