Barrenness

We all have a void, an empty space that only God can fill. In some way, everyone is barren – whether we feel the lack in our finances, our relationships, our family growth, our emotions – the list goes on. Here I write about the hope I have found in God. He can truly fill the empty places in our lives, and even when barrenness surrounds us, we can still find a glimpse of His goodness.

God Said, “Your Prayers Have Been Heard”

My long road of infertility, motherhood, and loss has somehow drawn me closer to Jesus and helped me to dig into God’s Word. During the pandemic, when my friend initiated a Bible study via zoom, several of us said “yes!” It has been such a gift. “Let’s study Hebrews,” said my friend after we finished…

They Quit Praying, But God Still Answered

While writing a blog post with a similar theme, I remembered that I had published this on my other blog years ago. A fun discovery is that I published this post exactly three years before my daughter was born. The summer when I was 21, I packed my bags with plans of traveling to Sudan…

Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?

In the beginning of 2017, I wrote a blog post referencing this question from the book of Job: “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” At that point in life, we had been trying to have a baby for nearly 7 years. I didn’t know it, but 6 months after I wrote that…

Because January Feels Barren – Join the Book Club

For many years, my Januarys have felt like the most depressing month. The fun and festivities of the holidays are behind us. The world outside for many of us is often more gray, cloudy, and dreary than the rest of the year. When I lived in Northern Virginia, the literal and figurative fog made me…

Don’t Be Offended By God

Our long-awaited son Noah was born into the arms of Jesus, just 6 weeks before his due date. Mike and I have discussed naming our son Noah for the past decade while we have been asking God for children. (Due to unexplained infertility, it was a long road to get here.) As we have walked…

Pregnant at 40 – Baby Announcement (Our Story: Part 3)

Never a Guarantee Early in our infertility journey, a friend who had struggled to become pregnant said, “Motherhood is a privilege, not a given.” Her words echo in my head. As much as any of us desire motherhood, although we hope and pray, motherhood is not a guarantee. For 7 years (2010-2017) I only saw…

Barrenness in Beautiful Places

As a writer and a lover of Jesus, I’m always taking note of how God writes the story of my life. The Great Author writes the story with unexpected twists and turns. Plenty of new developments came our way this past year! I was rather quiet on the blog and even on my public Facebook…

An Update from Me (February 2020)

Last time I shared a personal update about my life was nearly one year ago! You can read it here. Much has happened since then, and I haven’t consistently blogged about it. So here’s the latest recap! I am grateful for all who have followed along my blogging journey for most of those years (sometimes…

When You Only See Moms

For many years, I felt like an outsider when it came to mommy groups, unqualified because I wasn’t a mom. It didn’t matter how much I wanted to be someone’s mommy, months then years passed me by, leaving me with an empty womb. Then the day came when everything changed. (Read more of our story…
