The Value of Looking Back When Coping With Infertility

“Knowing that He was faithful in the past strengthens my belief that He is able to answer my prayers in the future according to His plans.”

I wrote this in Embracing Hope During Infertility, referencing the faithfulness of God in allowing me to marry just the right person in His time. This circumstance, along with so many other little things, like the apartments I have lived in and the friends I have made have been so timely, and when I look back I see that they were just right. They were orchestrated by a loving God.

Every now and then as I’m driving in my car, I come upon a car accident that has just look backhappened. Typically I don’t see the accident happen, I just see two cars that have just collided moments before, and I pass by before traffic is jammed or police have arrived. In those moments, I realize the sovereignty of God as I think “had I left home a moment earlier that could have been me.” Those moments remind me that God’s timing is so very right and that He is looking out for me.

I often listen to a song that says: “I will look back and see that You are faithful, I look ahead, believing You are able.” (Click here to listen to I Will Look Up by Elevation Worship.) Those words speak to me regularly in this season of trying to conceive a baby. Looking back on my past thirty-five years, I see how God has been faithful. Knowing that His character never changes, that He is faithful today, and He will be faithful in the future, I can look ahead with trust in Him.

Leave me a comment or send me a message to let me know how God has been faithful to you in the past! Reminding ourselves of such things helps us to believe that He will continue to be faithful in the future!
