There’s something about that color, I thought.

That particular weekend we were making final decisions about the color of the book cover. It was also a weekend when I took yet another a pregnancy test.

It occurred to me that the color of purple that Mike, Rebekah-the-graphic-designer, a couple of others, and I all agreed on for the cover of Embracing Hope During Infertility happened to be the same hue that I have looked at month after month.

The pregnancy tests (of which I have only ever seen ONE LINE appear – like in the picture here) and the ovulation tests (which often give me two lines, allowing me to know that I’m ovulating) are purple. The exact color of my book cover.

Was this on purpose? No way.

Was this by chance? Not likely.

Was this a tiny way God was reminding me that He doesn’t miss a thing, and that He was even going to forever change the way that I see something as simple as that color?

During the months of writing the manuscript, we considered several titles for the book, including “Staying Positive When the Pregnancy Test Isn’t.” Embracing Hope suited the book much better, however, this book demonstrates that it is possible to look on the bright side (hoping in God) even in the face of seemingly endless negative pregnancy tests.

No longer is that exact shade of purple a sign that I am NOT PREGNANT, no longer is it tied just to my struggle of trying to conceive, but going forward that color represents the words Embracing Hope. Even in the greatest struggle of my life, I can embrace HOPE in God – because He knows what He’s doing. He cares, even in the little things.
