Finding Grace – Reviews of Infertility Books

One Friday I came home from the library with too many books, for myself as well as for the children I nanny. Together we have checked out thousands of books in the years that I’ve been their nanny. Determined to keep reading, for myself and to the children, I checked out that huge pile of books… then I managed to read one of my books from start to finish over the weekend.

Finding Grace by Donna VanLiere is a book I discovered at my local library as I was searching for books about women struggling to get pregnant. It’s no secret that I’ve been trying to conceive for several years, with no success… yet. Mike and I trust in God’s goodness and His timing, and we truly believe that in the end, all things will work together for good.

Yet I am still curious to read about other people’s journeys. I checked out this memoir not knowing whether it was written from a Christian perspective, and not knowing if the author ever would have her own babies in the end. Without giving too much away, I will tell you that this book inspired me and encouraged me.

Finding Grace is simply that – it’s the story of how a woman who faced some major challenges in life also experienced the tremendous grace of God. The author learns that God doesn’t answer our prayers and our dreams in the way we would think that He should – but His ways are better. By His grace we ultimately get more than we deserve. As I read, my husband heard me chuckling in the other room and came to see why I was laughing – Donna’s story not only made me laugh, but at other times I wiped tears as I read. A good book evokes laughter and tears in me, and I cannot put it down. Finding Grace was one of those books.

Add this book to your reading list if you have ever struggled with fertility issues, or if you have ever struggled at all. If you’re in a wilderness season, if you’re trying to feel God’s grace or His love, this book will encourage you. Check it out!

I originally posted this on another blog a few years ago, and that blog is no longer active. I rediscovered it today so I thought I’d share! For more memoirs dealing with infertility, check out my Infertility Books posts.
