Springtime: New Life Coming From Dead Places

One spring day, while taking a walk near my home at the time, I paused to snap this picture of flowering trees in a graveyard. The caption that immediately came to mind was: “New life coming from dead places.”
For quite a few years I had been experiencing infertility. I had begun pursuing medical treatment, including a surgery to remove endometriosis the very week that I took this photo. Days later, I received a note from a friend on Facebook who said she was praying for the “resurrection of my womb.”
Each spring, as Christians we celebrate Resurrection Sunday (Easter), a time to remember that Jesus defied death by coming back from the grave – after dying for us and forever changing history. Springtime is a time to remember that He is the giver of new life!
Flowers growing through cracks in the sidewalk, plants that look lifeless suddenly shooting out a new sprout, and blooms that pop up through a snow covered yard to announce it’s time for spring – God who brings forth all of this new life is able bring babies to barren wombs, to revive dead relationships, and to provide finances from out of nowhere.
Almost exactly two years after I took this photo and jotted down these thoughts, God brought a new life out of my womb. At age 38, after 7 years of unexplained infertility, God said “it’s time,” (or as my announcement said, “Jesus said YES“) and our daughter was born in the spring, in the season when the flowers bloom and new life appears throughout nature. The very week we celebrated Resurrection Sunday, my body was about to bring forth life, because God answered those prayers for resurrection life in my womb.
As I write, I’m praying for my own situations that need new life, and I’m praying for yours, that God will bring forth new life in dead places and in areas that seem to be lifeless. God, we ask for miracle babies, for you to overcome infertility, and ultimately we thank you for sending Jesus as our Savior, Lord, and Friend!
