Highs & Lows of Infertility

Many have tried to find the words to describe infertility, including me. Today I want to share two simple statements from long ago that attempt to put imagery to the feelings. Like this one:

barren1

Think about it: have you ever seen a desert, even a picture of one? Dry earth’s desire for water keeps yearning. A wildfire is all-consuming. Hell continues.

And the depth of desire in a barren womb is just as unsatisfied as these things.

Yet, when infertility comes to an end and the barren womb finally bears the offspring it was created for, the depth of joy reaches great potential with these words:

barren2

There is a God who is able to make that barren woman feel settled & happy. He is able to let her be happy, in her home, as a mom.

As I keep writing about the sorrow of infertility and the joy found in Christ, I’ll continue to try to accurately describe it to those on the outside. But the Bible has long ago painted these words with images depicting the highs and lows of infertility.
