The personal messages that I receive as a result of my story are my favorite. Women find me on Instagram or Facebook and send me a message to say that the words I penned in the middle of my infertility journey meant a lot to them. The encouragement I shared helped them choose hope. They were able to trust God better, hope more, and wait longer. Some never have children. Many write to tell me that they were encouraged, and now they’re pregnant! I love those stories.

Before our first pregnancy, I received notes like this. “Betsy, your book encouraged me so much, and now I’m having a baby!” I would pause and remind God, “Hey, I’d like to have a baby too!”

I’m incredibly grateful that my day finally came, and now we’re close to the end of the journey of expanding our family. Our first little miracle was born in 2018 after 7 years of trying to conceive. We were pursuing several rounds of IUI at that time, but God stepped in and allowed the pregnancy to happen naturally on a month without treatment. As she grew and we adjusted to parenthood, my 40th birthday came and went. I begged God for one more baby before my husband I would need to call the family-growing years quits. In the nick of time, God answered me. Our second miracle pregnancy is going well, and our baby is due at the beginning of 2021, just after I turn 41. I am so grateful to God!

Looking Back

I began by writing blog posts in the early years of our infertility experience, and eventually felt prompted by God to write my experience in a book, even though I wasn’t a mom. It’s been more than 5 years since I published When Infertility Books Are Not Enough: Embracing Hope During Infertility. That book poured out of my heart as a way to deal with my emotions and to stand firm in my faith. I’m so glad I wrote it, even though it felt like I was baring my soul and putting my personal diary on the internet.

Ultimately, I wrote it out of obedience to God’s prompting. Hearing from women who were encouraged by my words always blesses me – it’s the icing on the cake of book writing.
