Churches: Keep Praying for Those Longing for Children
The other night I walked into a church service to the sound of these words being sung:
“I’ve seen You move, You move the mountains
And I believe, I’ll see You do it again
You made a way, where there was no way
And I believe, I’ll see You do it again…”
(The song “Do It Again” by Elevation Worship is at the bottom of this post.)
God’s presence was evident in that church, and I began to cry in awe of God. My miracle babe was stretching her legs inside my womb, pressing into my abdominal muscles. She is evidence of God who made a way when there was no way, and as God has strengthened my faith through years of infertility and answered prayer, I do believe that I’ll see Him do it again – in my life and in yours.
After worship ended, the pastor stood up and said he sensed God was speaking about a couple of things – one of those being “God is opening wombs.” My tears continued as I clutched the miracle growing in my body, just days away from her birth. I felt such strong emotion because I’ve seen firsthand that God can open wombs, and the prayers within a church are powerful.
One day soon, I hope to share two posts that I’ve written but not yet published: one involves my story of powerful prayers within a church, the other is my story of how difficult of a place church can be during infertility.
It might seem that those two things completely contradict each other – and maybe they do – but both are true. Prayers from a community of believers are powerful. And women battling barrenness carry so much grief into church.
Whether your church is like my recent experience, where someone shares from the pulpit that God wants to open wombs (He does!) or whether your church is more traditional, like my parents church, and the bulletin includes a reminder to pray for those who want to have children – regardless of what style a church is, churches need to be acknowledging and praying for those battling infertility.
I am thankful for this God whose promise still stands, who is forever faithful, who has moved mountains of infertility out of my life, who is able to do it again. I am thankful for the body of Christ who acknowledges the pain of a barren womb and prays for those who ache from it.
