Birthed by Elizabeth Hagan – Reviews of Infertility Books

I recently read Birthed: Finding Grace Through Infertility by Elizabeth Hagan. I first learned about this book a couple of years ago, just after publication, but due to some twists and turns in my own journey, I didn’t sit down to read it until recently.
I’m glad I did, because I really enjoyed it!
Elizabeth is a gifted writer and communicator. She shares her raw feelings and emotions so well throughout this book. Her pain and the grief of infertility are very relatable to those of us who are also in the middle of it or who have been there. Failed fertility treatments, failed adoptions – she’s been there, she knows, and she describes these things well.
This author and I have much in common beyond infertility: there are similarities in our family backgrounds, schooling, places we’ve lived, and our love for living in the D.C. area. Although I don’t agree with her on all theological points, I was struck by the same conclusions that we both drew about our faith after a long, hard, road to motherhood. Our faith has been strengthened by wrestling to know God more during the valley of infertility. We’ve both come to know that God is truly good toward us, and He has surrounded us with people who care about us and demonstrate His love to us. Elizabeth’s declaration of God’s goodness toward her even with unanswered prayers and unfulfilled dreams is one I can definitely relate to.
If you’re looking for first-hand accounts another woman’s infertility journey, add this book to your reading list. You can get a copy on Amazon (here’s the link), or through other booksellers, or check your local library (or library app).
