Someone I follow on social media shared that he sets an alarm for a certain time each day that reminds him to pray that God would send workers into the harvest fields. (Matthew 9:37-38) I thought that was a great idea so I began setting an alarm to go off at 9:38 each morning. When my phone starts chirping like a chorus of little birdies I pause and pray for two specific groups of people: I pray for God to send out more workers into his harvest field. And I pray for empty wombs to carry babies.

Day after day I pray for these things, and I wonder if God is linking them together in my prayers. Because He has reminded me that Joseph in the Old Testament was a long-awaited-miracle-baby who ended up being born at just the right time to lead nations. And John the Baptist was a long-awaited-miracle-baby who was born at just the right time to tell everyone that Jesus was about to shake up the earth.

Could these babies we pray for be the ones who will go into a ripe harvest field with His good news? Could it be that the baby you or I are waiting for needs to come at just the perfect time in history?

History. It’s His story. God is writing His story, and He does know what He’s doing. And I will continue to trust that His timing is right.
